Nowhere had anything in my size, and especially anything in my budget, and coming out of dressing room after dressing room spilling out of size 4 samples of dresses that were two times my budget, ready to surrender to spanx and overspending, was an extremely un-empowering and upsetting process. As a petite, curvy (size 14) bride, working with a fairly modest budget, shopping for a wedding gown in NYC was plainly awful. Then, (we're fast-forwarding like 20 years here) I got engaged!Īt first, my gown shopping experience (elsewhere) was honestly very painful and confusing. When I was little, I remember driving past (the now old/previous storefront of) this bridal salon, and seeing all of the gowns glistening in the windows, and always thinking that it looked so luxurious and glamorous. I truly don't know where to begin with this review, but I guess I can start with a little context! I grew up in New Jersey, and now live in Brooklyn. I had zero dress regret from the moment I made my first payment and would recommend this place to anyone. As someone who hates shopping and was terrified of this whole process, I am so happy I chose this shop because of how comfortable they made me feel.

She had me walk around in it to make sure I was comfortable and on my last appointment, she showed my stepmom how to properly bustle the dress and was so patient as my dad stood there taking a video so she would remember how to do it the day of. She was very easy to work with, recommended a bustle style to me and a hem length (she took just the right amount off but said if I wanted more I could). I worked with Diana and had 3 appointments. The salon had a flat fee for alterations (at the time I went it was $595) and it was worth every penny because my seamstress was AMAZING. When it did come, I scheduled an appointment to go try it on because I was excited, something the store had no issue with. I was told it would take 8-10 months to arrive, which was accurate (I ordered February 2022 and it arrived November 2022). After she took my measurements she even confirmed with me that everything was correct and that based on those measurements I should order this particular size. That is absolutely not the case here and not once did they make me feel bad about the size I am or that I should feel pressured to diet before the wedding. I have seen so many horror stories of brides being improperly measured at the salon and being told that most people lose weight to fit into a dress. I made a second appointment to go back and try on the dress I knew I wanted and said yes! The most important part is that the woman helping me took accurate measurements. I thought I found the one, but didn’t want to buy anything the first day I tried on, so I decided to sleep on it. They have a great selection of dresses in all different styles and at no point did I feel pressured to buy anything. I went to Bijou Bridal after already visiting 2 other salons, but wasn’t absolutely confident I had found the one.
I am not a shopper, so I started off thinking that finding a wedding dress was going to be tough for me.
